Powers

» The Other Aria.

The wish for all Blare to 'disappear' comes from two different parts of Aria's heart: the Verse Maiden, which wishes for all the Blare to vanish so that humanity can be free, and the Blare part, who wishes to destroy all that there is. To wish for them to "disappear" is to wish that they no longer bother the world at large, and that extends to herself as well.

However "herself" means "The Aria that is a Blare". The old Aria is a different Aria, one who is energetic and hyperactive, though they are really the same person.

Aria's passive ability, which stems from the wish of the corrupted Aria to disappear, is the ability to regain her will and emotions - though this is far from perfect and not permanent. When overwhelmed or stressed, Aria regains the traits of her old self - with her emotions becoming more pronounced and even difficult to control.

When in possession of these traits, Aria cannot properly use her magic. It's like driving standard and switching to stick - the concepts are roughly the same, but the execution is different. Her ability to summoner her weapon, invisibility, and any other power will not function as they should.

»Invisibility.

This one is pretty straight forward. Aria wishing for all Blare to "disappear" extends to herself as well. Her idea of fixing the problem was to remove her presence from everyone and wait for things to resolve themselves by not taking action, but as that didn't really work, her death was the next best thing. The wish was made in the spirit of wishing to remove the problem from sight without hurting anyone, and thus, invisibility.

Aria's ability reduces her to being invisible whenever she feels overwhelmed, insecure, or unhappy. It is not an ability she can fully control and only extends to her physical form - clothing she wears (outside of her Magical Girl form) does not disappear with her. Holding this invisibility for any more than fifteen minutes is also a massive drain on her soulgem. In time she can master the ability and become invisible at will, but until that time comes it's tied to her emotions.

Character name: Aria
Age: 17
Canon: OMEGA QUINTET
Canonpoint: Chapter 9, Prior to fighting the party as a MAD

Background: Wiki but there's nothing on there.

Regardless of the bright and happy appearance of the game, Omega Quintet takes place in a crap-sack world. One day, monsters known as "Blare" appeared in the world and decimated it's population. It was found that young girls who possessed the power of Song could combat the monsters, and so for a period of time these girls were kidnapped and forced into inhumane experiments or used as child soldiers. As the world's population thinned and the monsters grew, fear of the government did as well. So tactics had to change.

The concept of "Verse Maidens", girls who are cute and protect the Earth with a noble heart and song, was created and the concept that they grew more powerful the bigger their fanbase was also came into play. In truth, it was a convenient way for the government to ensure that they would always have willing saviors and protectors.

By the time the game takes place, this has been the way the world has been for some time. Aria is but one in the line of many Verse Maidens who took up the mantle, but her career was cut tragically short after she was overwhelmed by the monsters. Blare have the ability to corrupt beings into monsters, or to shatter their minds irreparably and contaminate them. Aria was hit by the latter, losing much of her will and original personality in the attack and fleeing from town to recover. The Blare that devoured her will follows her, taking the form of a bizarre cat-like creature.

During the game, the party finds Aria in a meadow far from town. They go out looking to recruit her for the new Verse Maiden Idol group they're forming to protect the town. Aria is resistant to their overtures of friendship, preferring instead to stay isolated from humanity. The party questions why she's there, as the monsters seem to be swarming in great droves - she expresses that she has no idea what they're talking about, the monsters don't bother her. The party leaves, crestfallen.

Things begin to degrade in town. A massive Blare attack happens and the group is almost overwhelmed, though Aria swoops in to assist them at the last second. After saving them, they convince her to stay with them and so she reluctantly joins them, obviously hiding a massive secret.

A series of misadventures follow, the Blare wax and wane and they fight and establish themselves as an idol group. Aria debuts in the group during a massive concert after saving the town from the Blare, and things seem to go well for a while. The reality of their world begins to wear on the group, as they realize that no matter how many Blare they fight, there will always be more to take their place.

Otoha gets the idea to begin pushing the Blare away from the city, to reclaim their lands. It works. Aria begins to question what it means to be human, and what it means to be part of the Blare. She begins to question the Blare's thoughts and feelings, and eventually comes to the conclusion that they have them. And they. Are. Pissed. Losing their territory to the Quintet results in the Blare refocusing their attention and trying to push into the unguarded city.

Shortly thereafter, it's revealed to them that Blare come from humans. Aria seems to realize the level of her contamination and begins to feel more distant from the other Verse Maidens. It doesn't help that the people begin to turn against them, blaming their misfortune upon the girls and harassing them verbally and physically. Aria reveals that she is a Blare to the citizens, and that the small creature that has been with her this whole time is a fully cognizant Blare who can speak and is actually the "personality" of her former self.

Aria, realizing that the reason that the city is in danger, decides that all she can do is isolate herself. However, Pet begins acting of it's own volition and puts the town in further danger. Knowing that people will never truly be safe, Aria goads the party into attacking her. Badly wounded and unable to maintain the integrity of the building she'd chosen to hide in, Aria stays behind while the party flees.

As the building begins collapsing around her, Pet appears. Aria says that she is content to die here and that it is what it means to be a Blare, and that Pet should be more like a Blare instead of harassing the world. And in a cruel twist of irony, Pet agrees. It gives her will and emotions back, and leaves her to die as the building collapses around her.

The game ends with only two of the five girls continuing the fight in a world that now hates them.
Personality: Aria was once a bright and chipper Verse Maiden in training. Nene describes this Aria has "hyperactive", speaking so quickly she was difficult to understand and so eager to be of service to any possible underclassmen that she seemed like an inspiration. Aria was definitely on her the fast-track of becoming a fan favorite.

But as the only disciple to the aging Momoka, the weight of the world was literally upon the girl's shoulders. Aria pushed herself too hard and become overwhelmed by the monsters of the world, creatures known as "Blare", and though she survived the encounter - Aria was forever changed. She fled society, living in a wide open field far from the security of the city.

This new Aria is much different from how she used to be. She speaks in an awkward... stilted... manner, her voice almost completely monotone. She poses a sharp contrast to the excitable and energetic Otoha, or the serious Kyouka. Though she struggles to express emotions, it's clear that she still has them. Aria attempts to make jokes and interact with her fellow magi, but her delivery of it is soften so flat that they often misunderstand what she's trying to say.

She's extremely self-aware of how she comes across. Aria is moody, melancholic, gloomy, and honestly, downright depressing to be around upon first meeting her. She speaks quietly. Her memory is poor and she is often unaware of what's happening around her. It takes a special kind of person to endure Aria's quirks and get to see the real her. She's always surprised to see it happen.

Though she struggles to express it, Aria is often sarcastic and darkly humorous. Aria has a comeback for nearly every situation, though it's often quiet and overlooked. She and Takt, the sarcastic and often rude protagonist, often commiserate over the antics of the other Verse Maidens with sarcastic quips.

Even so, she's the most obvious in her worries for the other Verse Maidens. Aria speaks from the heart and is the quickest to not only say the truth, but to comfort her fellow Maidens should they need it. Though she has little energy (and is usually either sleeping or wanting to sleep) she never hesitates to get involved in the other girl's needs. She's the gentlest with Otoha, who is often overly invested and awkward, and can often be the quiet voice of reason when the other girls get too worked up.

But as someone who was so strongly affected by the Blare, Aria struggles with her place among the other verse maidens. Her self worth has been decimated by the loss of her old self, which wasn't helped by Momoka lashing out at her when she fell in battle. When push comes to shove, Aria is the quickest to try to sacrifice herself for the greater good. Her uncertainty often leads her to seeking approval or understanding from Takt, who she has a connected to due to their mutual relationship to the Blare. When she receives letters from fans, she's surprised that anyone would care enough or like her enough to write to her and agonizes over whether not to accept them. Aria wants a connection with humanity, but has spent so long believing herself not to be a part of it she doesn't believe she's worthy of it.

It should be noted that while Aria considers herself a Blare, she's still Aria and still human, she simply possesses the instincts and power of a Blare. Blare can be compared to "despair" in Madoka Magica, with the MAD being the physical forms of witches. Aria is a human who is infected by the Blare and can take the appearance of a MAD (though it's muted compared to most) and retains her humanity, though she's lost much of her memory and there is a clear disconnect between her feelings and her expressions. She struggles to understand her feelings.

The creature that's often with her, called either "Pet" or "Kitty" is the creature that stole her will and emotions and gave her it's in return. The two of them possess a unique relationship unlike any other. Aria hates it for stealing her life and desires and it loves being what it is, staying around her for "fun". It blames Aria for all it does, and Aria accepts the blame believing that it's truly done in her will.

All in all, Aria is a complicated mess. Her perception of herself has become warped by all that's happened to her, but she still cares and wants to do right.
Wish: "A wish...? Is that so... in that case, as a Verse Maiden... I wish that all the Blare would disappear... and as a Blare, that includes me... as well."

At the moment Aria makes her wish, she has become overwhelmed by her condition. She's drained emotionally and has come to realize that the Blare and humanity cannot exist together, and that as something caught between the two she also cannot exist happily. Her presence alone makes the Blare more active and puts all the people she loves in danger, and so she tries to isolate herself - lying and saying that it's to "watch the town become overwhelmed". In reality, she believes that by staying there it will quell the attacks. However, with Pet acting independently, Aria knows that this will never come to pass.

She tries to goad the party into cutting her down. Canonically, She gives in completely to the Blare and becomes a MAD, a corrupted manifestation brought on by the Blare, and attacks the party. However, Kyuubey intervenes before she gives up her body and offers her the wish.

The effect of the wish is instantaneous. The Blare disappear from the world, and Aria vanishes before the party's eyes.

Sample:

It was inevitable, she supposed. A Blare could not be a Verse Maiden. She could not exist with them... befriend them... care for them, when she was scarcely more than a shadow of her former self. When she was a being meant to destroy them. There was no regret in the words she had said, no second guessing the decision she had made. It was better than facing the alternative. Better than...

Well. It was better not to think of that. She'd managed to find her home, managed to orient herself to the location and understand what exactly it was that she was brought here for, but still... One thing bothered her.

"I... do not feel the Blare... I wonder... could it be that, even here..."

It seemed likely. Though Nightmares resembled the Blare in superficial ways, ultimately they could not be compared. Nightmares could be quelled, their victims seemed to be left in better condition than they were upon infection, whereas someone affected by the Blare...

Someone infected by the Blare never became as they once were, let alone better. There was nothing relieving about becoming like this.

"Then again... these people... remind me... of myself, sometimes... Perhaps they are... also..." A pause, a shake of her head. "No... They are, too cheery... Unlike, a gloomy person like me, they seem... to be content... Perhaps it is, similar... but not, exactly the same..."
